       "Plastics" derived its name from its properties to be molded, cast, extruded or processed into a variety of forms. It do not decompose easily because plastics are made of polyethylene. It takes 1000 years for polyethylene to break down.


       Plastic bags are cheap to produce or cost less, durable, water resistant, have different sizes that suits to peoples need and it is also convenient. Plastic bags are indeed useful. But despite of its uses, it brings lots of hazards because of its method of disposal which creates  pollution problems.


       Burning of  plastics leads to the creation of noxious fumes, such as carbon monoxide. Noxious fumes have a detrimental effect to the ozone layer which prevents the harmful rays of the sun from entering the atmosphere. The thinning of this layer has increased incidences of skin cancer and has therefore, been vital cause of the problem "global warming".


       The land get littered by plastic bag garbage presenting an ugly and unhygienic seen. Its improper disposal results to blockage of drainage system which creates unhygienic environment resulting in health hazard and spreading of water borne diseases. This littering also reduces rate of rain water percolating, resulting in lowering of water levels. The soil fertility  deteriorates as the plastic bags remains in the soil for years. Plastic also goes into to ocean which infested body water.


       Practice to limit the use of plastic bags because it has detrimental effects on the environment. MAKE DIFFERENCE BY MAKING RESPONSIBLE CHOICE. There are many alternatives to plastic.
